Dorothy P. Barnes, 87, of Westfield passed away peacefully June 1, 2017. She was born April 24, 1930 in Russell, MA. She is survived by her brother Charles (Nancy) Peckham; children Brian (Julie) Barnes, Joan (Tom) McGowan, Jean (Richard) Cappucci; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. She was an active volunteer in the community, church and 4-H. She quietly encouraged many young women who were struggling in life, becoming like a second mother to some. She worked for Anderson’s Manufacturing, Westfield River Paper Company, Gladwin & Lane Oil Company and later Cassin Insurance Company. Memorial services will be held at Russell Community Church, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, 140 West Silver Street, Westfield, MA. Reception to follow at Tucker’s, 625 College Highway, Southwick, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Russell Community Church, Main Street Russell, MA 01071.
