Ella R. (Cortis) Hewins, 97, passed away at home with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth Hewins in 1975 and many, many family members. Ella was presented the Golden Cane in Russell this past May for being the oldest resident in her town. She leaves behind Diane Byers and her husband Ernest, whom she resided with for the past 7 years, she also leaves behind four generations of nieces and nephews. Ella semi-retired from Old Colony Envelope Company where she worked for years, she proceeded to work as a home health aide till she totally retired at the age of 80. She chose to return to her home town to live out her golden years, where she had many great adventures with her nieces, who she loved dearly. Ella never had children of her own, but that never stopped her love for 4 generations of nieces and nephews, that she leaves behind. The family would like to give a special thank you to Rhetta Champion (case manager) and Deb Brown (RN) of Western Mass Elder Care, also Julie Chandler (care advisor) from Highland Valley elder care. Also to Jennifer Watson (RN) of Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice for making her golden years really golden. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, at 11AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad ST. Westfield, burial will follow in Russell Cemetery, Russell. Visiting hours will precede the service from 9-11 AM in the funeral home.
