Ellen Toomey Schortmann, 72, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Born on January 29, 1944 in Westfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Toomey. Ellen was a life-long resident of Westfield, MA. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1962 and retired from a 30 year career at Baystate Hospital as a patient accounting representative. Her true love was raising her children and watching her grandsons grow up. She is survived by her three beautiful children, Tracy Gawron and her husband Clay; Ronald Schortmann Jr., and Michael Schortmann and his wife Julie, all of Westfield; her beloved grandsons Ryan, Brad, Matthew and Dylan Schortmann; brother-in-law Don Alonzo; niece Karen Alonzo; great nephew Jordan Poplawski, and best friends Jayne Babij and Ellen Patrick. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Alonzo and her nephew Dean Alonzo. Ellen will be fondly remembered by those who knew her for her sparkling blue eyes and heart of gold. Adored by her children, she will always remain their guiding light. Memorial services will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home in Westfield, MA, followed by a burial service at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.
