Huntington-John Anthony Lastowski, 79, died Thursday, January, 18, 2018 in Cooley Dickinson Hospital surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Hartford, CT on October 26, 1938 to the late Alexander and Zita (Rybecki) Lastowski. He grew up in Northampton and attended local schools. After high school he was an orderly/medical examiners assistant at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He attended U.C.L.A. and attended the Police Academy in California. He was awarded many certificates for his excellence in sharp shooting and criminal justice. He worked for the California Highway Patrol and then worked for the Barstow Police Dept. in CA. He moved to Huntington in the 1970’s and has lived in Huntington for the past 38 years. He was a construction supervisor for a few years and was also a third shift foreman for Pro Brush. He was a police officer for the town on Huntington for many years. John also worked for Mestek as a maintenance supervisor and retired in 2014 after 33 years. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and built his own home in Huntington. He also enjoyed camping and watching football. He leaves his wife of 38 years Donna Lee (Wolcott) Lastowski, his children John Lastowski Jr. of Granby, MA, Charlie Lastowski and his wife Caryn of Texas, Derek Tyburski of Westfield, Tawnya Robbins of West Springfield and Jennifer Nylund and her husband Gary of Southwick. John also leaves 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, his siblings Alexander Lastowski Jr. of CA, Elizabeth Russell and Paul Lastowski of Florence, MA and Suzanne Roch of Easthampton. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Tina Elia in 2017 and his siblings Richard Lastowski and Alice Mogelinski. The funeral for John Will be held on Tuesday January 23rd at 11:30 am at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7pm.
