Obituary: WESTFIELD – Ethel L. (Dagenais) Palecki, 92, died surrounded by three generations of her family on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Southampton, on January 21, 1916, the daughter of the late Eli and Clara (Mitchell) Dagenais. Ethel lived in Westfield and Worthington before moving to California in 1961, returning to Springfield in 1979, she then moved to Hamilton, Montana in 1983 and returned to Westfield in 2006. Ethel had a lifelong love of cooking and needle arts and was a member of the Massachusetts and California Grange Assoc. She also volunteered as a “grandma” in schools and hospitals. She loved playing games, especially Bingo and Dominos. Ethel was predeceased by her husbands, Lawrence Blakesley and Anthony “Red” Palecki, brother William, sisters Geneva and Florence, stepsons George and Nathan Palecki and granddaughter Cheryl Blakesley. She is survived by three sons Ralph Blakesley and wife Joan of Dalton, children Sheila, Diane and Richard, Francis Palecki and wife Susan of Arlington, TX, children Robert and Brannan, and Eugene Palecki and wife Carol of Hamilton , MT and daughter Ashley. She also leaves five step children, Anthony Palecki and Joyce Paroline of Westfield, David Palecki and wife Sandy of Fitchburg, Robert Shepard of Parker, AZ and Lorraine Bishop of Suffield, CT, 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks goes to the loving staff at The Arbors of Westfield who have made her last 2 ½ years of life the most fun and enjoyable of her 92 years. The funeral will be Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 12 :00 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA with burial immediately following at Springfield Cemetery, 171, Maple St, Springfield, MA. A calling hour will precede the service Wednesday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall St. 19th floor, New York, NY 10005. firtionadams.com
