Alice Liptak Obituary

Alice M. (Ullrich) Liptak’s bubbly laugh and smile finally ended on November 22 when she passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family.  The daughter of Frederick and Katherine (Hibert) Ullrich, she was born on July 28, 1937 in New York City. Myth has it that she had a golf club and a Pepsi already in her hands. She moved to Westfield when she was ten years old and was quickly enrolled at St. Mary’s school where she became best friends with some of the nuns perhaps due to her, uh shall we say, frequent hours of detention in the convent.   She lived on Franklin Street, and remained in the same house throughout her life, eventually raising three daughters whom she dearly loved, Debra, Cindy, and Donna. Alice had a long career becoming the first woman manager for Brinks Inc. Later she went on to become head bookkeeper at Aspen Square Management, retiring in 2009. Although she was a hard worker, she is best remembered for her sparkling, effervescent personality. She had a persona that could light up a room, as she was always filled with joy. Anyone lucky enough to know her loved her. In her earlier days she was a serious bowler and could bowl a perfect 300. Moving on to golf, she played in a league at Southwick Country Club where it is suspected that there may have been some liquid assistance in the golf bag. (And thank you to her partner Jimmy Keenan for his kindness and patience) She even managed to hit a hole-in-one (in Florida)! Alice will be sadly missed by the family that she leaves behind. They are: her two daughters; Debra Hartman and her husband James; and Cindy Desroches and her husband Dennis, as well as her grandchildren: Chera Hunter and her husband Eric, Mark Huber, Daniel Hartman, Richard Hartman, and Alyssa Desroches, her greatgrandchildren: Owen and Adelyn Hunter, and a cousin, Kathleen Palmer.  Alice was predeceased by her daughter Donna, her husband Philip Liptak, her brother Willian Ullrich, and her long-time partner George Heath. She leaves behind many good friends that will surely miss her, especially those at the Sons of Erin where she spent many happy times. Visiting hours are Sunday, December 1 from 2:00 to 5:00 at Firtion Adams, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA.  Her funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 2nd at 9:30AM in Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, 30 Bartlett Street, at 10:30. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 203 Southampton Road, Westfield, MA. www.firtionadams.com
