Catherine (Sidorakis) Matthews

Catherine (Sidorakis) Matthews, 90, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 8, 2019. She was born in Bloomfield, NJ to the late Nicholas and Maria (Columbus) Sidorakis. She was an artisan, jewelry maker (with the Bethany Brass Band in CT) and bookkeeper, but most of all, she was an incredible YiaYia, mother, wife and friend. Catherine had the ability to light up a room with her smile and she will be remembered by all, for the contagious joy she spread wherever she went. Her effervescent personality and kindness made people want to call her their friend. Catherine is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Demetreos N. Matthews, her loving children, Nestor D. Matthews and his husband Brent West of Worthington and Sunday Burke and her husband Bill of Southampton, her devoted grandchildren, Jessica Burke of Southampton, Chelsey Burke of Quincy, Tyler Burke of Northampton and Brandon Burke of Orleans, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Catherine also leaves her brother-in-law Don and his wife Chrys Matthews of North Carolina She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Barbara Sidorakis, George and Ruth Sidorakis and Charlie and Sarah Sidorakis, as well as Chris and Penny Yiapis and Dena Matthews. Catherine’s funeral will be held on Friday at 12 noon in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA followed by burial in Center Cemetery, Rt. 10, Southampton, MA. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5-7PM in the funeral home.
