Eleanor Orlandi Obituary

Eleanor M. (Lafreniere) Orlandi, 99, passed away peacefully April 16, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family.  Eleanor was born April 30, 1919 in East Hartland, CT to the late Eli and Margaret (Lafountain) Lafreniere. She moved to Westfield and attended Public Schools. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Aldo L. Orlandi, who passed away July 15, 2015, after 74 years of marriage.   She lived with her mother-in-law, for two years, while her husband proudly served his country as a Sargent in the United States Army in World War II.  They bought their first and current home in 1949.   Her religion, husband, children and family were the center of her life.  She is survived by her son, Aldo F. and his wife Karen T. of Westfield, her daughter Karen O. Hatch of Westfield.  She leaves her four grandchildren, Amy Malinowski (Chris) of Westfield, Christopher Orlandi (Alanna) of Somers, CT, Gerri Lynn Hatch of Simsbury, CT and Jaime Avery (Matt) of Southwick.  Seven great-grandchildren, Nicolas Malinowski (Chelsi) of Westfield, Keith Fernandes of Avon, CT, Michael Malinowski of Westfield, Nolan and Reese Avery of Southwick and Andrew and Anthony Orlandi of Somers, CT. She also leaves her sister-in-law Mary Lafreniere of Westfield. She was predeceased by her 11 siblings; three brothers, Raymond, Joseph (Earl) and Larry Lafreniere, eight sisters, Grace Benoit, Viola Hansen, Blanche Marcoulier, Dorothy Gagnon, Christine Champiney, Evelyn Ryan, Helen Sczucynski and Theresa Mochak.  She also leaves many nieces and nephews, all of whom have a special place in her heart.  Eleanor was a life-long parishioner of St. Mary’s in Westfield, a member of the Confraternity of The Most Holy Rosary at St. Mary’s and a member of the Italian American Women’s Club.  Eleanor cherished and supported her loved ones whenever and wherever she was could. From working at her sister Evelyn Ryan’s Hilltop Variety store, the Coffee Shop at Noble Hospital to the many years she spent babysitting for both her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren she relished every minute spent with them and created many wonderful memories. The family would like to acknowledge and “Thank” Carrie Avery of Westfield for the many years of service in taking care of Mom and Dad, as well Nilda (Millie) Caban of Westfield who has been there to take care of Mom daily since March.  We would also like to “Thank” Amy and Marie, the Nursing tag team from Baystate/Noble Hospice. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield from 5-7 PM. A Liturgy of Christian Burial Wednesday, meeting directly at 9:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 30 Bartlett, St. Burial will follow at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.
