Gail V Stasky

Gail Victor Stasky, 83, died peacefully in his sleep while vacationing in Florida on January 25, 2018. Born in New Britain, CT; only son of Victor and Cecelia Stasky.He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Carnes Stasky in 1989 and his youngest son, Christopher D. Stasky in 2011. He received a Bachelor’s degree from NYU, Master’s degree from WSC, and Doctorate from UMASS Amherst. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956-66 in Japan, Korea and stateside. He graduated from Ranger School and received other specialized training. He graduated top of his class from language school; fluent in Arabic. He then served a tour in Saudi Arabia as a military advisor and interpreter. After leaving the Army at the rank of Captain, he worked in Westfield Public Schools as a teacher, WEA union representative, Head of Social Studies Department and Assistant Principal of WHS. He retired as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the town of Ludlow. He refereed high school basketball and soccer for many years. He spent his retirement enjoying summers on the lake and traveling extensively. He is survived by a son, Leo J. Stasky of Westfield, three daughters, Vivienne M. Barrows of Ohio, Ursula M. Johnston of Texas, Juanita A. Carnes and Ted Drummey of Westfield. He leaves his grandchildren: Scarlet,Judith, Susan, Steven, Hunter, Amelia, Julian, Maxim, Zachary, Alexander, Thomas, and six great grandchildren. He also leaves many friends and close cousins. All are welcome to a Memorial Gathering at noon on Saturday, February 3rd at Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield.
