James P. Alamed, 79, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center due to complications following lung cancer surgery. He was born in Westfield to the late Fredrick A. and Martha V. (Grant) Alamed. Jim served honorably in the United States Navy from 1956-1959 and excelled in his position as electrician’s mate, including aboard the USS Rushmore. He was skilled as a master electrician and worked for Digital Equipment Corp. for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. From 1995-2016, Jim maintained an active electrical contracting business. A tribute to his work ethic was best expressed by his quote: “You are one of the few professionals from an era when careful attention and consideration are hallmarks of your work.” He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. For 19 years Jim spent summers in Henderson, NY, at his home on the shoreline of Lake Ontario, forming close, lasting relationships and cherished memories along the way. He tackled his many medical challenges by positively living life to the fullest, never complaining, always persevering. He was a charter member of the Sons of Erin in Westfield, member of the Westfield Boys Club and Westfield Jaycee’s. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Theresa (Vinisko) Alamed, his four loving sons, John M. Alamed and his wife Sherri of Westfield, James G. Alamed and his wife Patrice of Chicopee, Mark T. Alamed and his wife Romola of Westfield and Paul S. Alamed and his wife Michelle of West Springfield, his brother Gary F. Alamed and his wife Dure’ of Stratham, NH and numerous cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sadly, James was predeceased by a son, Jason R. Alamed in 2009 and two brothers, William and Herbert Alamed and his sister Marilyn Cymes. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 9:30 AM from the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA 01085, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St. Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield, MA. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
