Jerzy Brancewicz, 91, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, after a courageous and epic ten month battle to live in spite of suffering multiple strokes, congestive heart failure, and diabetes. And, undergoing multiple surgeries and hospitalizations. He was born in Antolesino, Poland, on February 8, 1928, son of the late Alfons and Elzbieta (Kietuszkiewicz) Brancewicz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Maria (Szczepanczyk) Brancewicz, his children Chris, Peter, Marek, and EwaMaria. He is also survived by his brothers, Jan Brancewicz, of New Jersey, and Tadeusz and Karol Brancewicz, of Poland. He has many relatives in Poland. He was predeceased by his sister Tola Krzysztofek, also of Poland. Jerzy Brancewicz grew up in war torn Poland to become a man of deep and abiding faith. And, although life visited tragedies on him and his family during his life, his faith remained unshaken. He earned a Master’s Degree in Theology from the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw. He served the Holy Trinity Church and other churches as Reader and the Eucharistic Minister. He volunteered and served at the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge. During his working years, Jerzy Brancewicz worked at the H. B. Smith Company, then at Columbia Manufacturing Company, and finally at Digital Equipment Corporation. Friends are invited to visit Jerzy Brancewicz at the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM on Friday, June 7, 2019, and then to attend his funeral Mass which will take 1 / 2 place at 10:30 AM, at Holy Trinity Church, 331 Elm Street, Westfield, MA. The funeral Mass will be presided by Fr. Kazimierz Chwalek, MIC, of Stockbridge, MA, and concelebrated by Fr. Bernard Backiel, MIC, of Thompson, CT, Fr. Daniel Pacholec, of Westfield, MA, and his nephew, Fr. Tomasz Szczepanczyk, of Front Royal, Virginia. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Westfield, MA, following the funeral Mass.
