Muriel Lyon, 89, of Westfield passed away peacefully on November 16th. She was born in Westfield on September 19,1930 to the late Charles and Eugena (Loomis) Pierce. Muriel married her husband William Lyon in 1950 and they enjoyed 43 years together before his passing in 1993. They moved from Westfield to Congamond Lake in Southwick in 1961. She was an excellent water skier and was the “star” of many water ski shows. Muriel and Bill enjoyed traveling with their neighbors Audrey and Andy Grant and eventually bought a winter home next door to them in Englewood, Florida where she discovered a love of golfing. She was very involved with activities in their community at Gulf to Bay Park. She was the first woman school bus driver in Westfield. She worked many years as the manager of a bakery in a local super market. All of her grandchildren will remember visiting Gramma Lyon at the store and getting a fresh warm donut or cookie! Muriel will best be remembered for her caring concern for others and her “I can do that” attitude. She was predeceased by her stepdaughter Patricia Gavioli and her stepson Gary Lyon. Muriel will be sadly missed by her stepson William Lyon and his wonderful and supportive wife and Muriel’s close friend Judith of West Chesterfield, as well as her daughter Carol Jones and her husband Jay of Granville.
