A bright light has departed this world. Norma J. (Roberts) Losacano Hopper, 87, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017, at Heritage Hall West in Agawam. She was born on January 5, 1930 in West Springfield, in her childhood home, to the late Edwin and Winifred (Wysock) Roberts. In 1947, just weeks after turning 17, Normie obtained her pilot’s license, the youngest female to do so at the time. She and her friends enjoyed flying to Cape Cod and other locales, often surprising airport crews when the petite, pretty pilot hopped out of the plane. Over the years, Normie held many positions, including secretary at the Springfield Airport and Milliner Department Supervisor at Steiger’s Department Store in Westfield. She was a loving homemaker and in the last decades of her life she took great pleasure entertaining residents at up to 32 nursing and senior homes in the Pioneer Valley with her piano playing. She also played concerts and provided music for numerous weddings in the Carillon Bell Tower at Stanley Park. For Normie, her family was everything. She will be deeply missed by her seven children, Karen L. Strycharz (Francis) of West Springfield, Edwin W. Losacano (Sherry) of Southampton, Leanne G. Beckwith (Paul Seaha) of West Springfield, Jill E. Moretz (Donald) of Otis, Peter W. Losacano (Elizabeth) of Lafayette, GA, Jon J. Losacano (Cindy) of West Springfield and Krishel P. Allen (Scott Ryan) of West Springfield, and her cherished 18 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George Hopper in 1989, her brother Harold Roberts and a grandson Zachary. Funeral Home Service will be held on Friday, November 3 at 11AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St., Westfield, followed by burial in Paucatuck Cemetery, Sibley Ave., West Springfield. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8PM and Friday from 10-11AM at the funeral home. www.firtionadams.com
