Sylvia Teal, 81, of 66 Broad St, Westfield, died Saturday at Governor’s Center in Westfield. Born Sylva Jean Lamora in Plattsburgh, New York, on January 12, 1937, she later moved to Springfield and attended high school at Cathedral High. A resident of Southwick for over 40 years, Sylvia was a supervisor at Kmart for several years, and later a long time day care provider for Valley Opportunity Council. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry. Sylvia was skilled at many types of crafts, creating and sharing her work with family and friends. She was the wife of Clifford Teal, who passed away in 2004, her life partner of 39 years. She leaves her children, Kenneth Prokop and his wife Amsel of Ontario, Oregon, Burt Prokop of Montgomery and his wife Janine of Springfield, Carolyn Joslin of Burns, Oregon, Faye Monczka and her husband Bob of Westfield, and Jay Teal and his partner Kim O’Donnell of Troy, New York. Predeceased by her sister Nicky and brothers Art, Maynard and Robert, she also leaves 4 sisters, Pat McCarrol of East Longmeadow, Bunny Kelleher of East Longmeadow, Theresa Aldrich of Chicopee, and Thelma Prokop of Southwick, 16 grandchildren, and 46 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, September 12, from 3pm – 6pm at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St, Westfield. A small gathering will take place afterwards at the Italian Club in Westfield, with food and drink and an opportunity to share memories of Sylvia’s life amongst family and friends. Firtionadams.com
