William "Bill" Smith Obituary


South Hadley - William “Bill” L. Smith, Jr., 90, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on June 7, 2018. He was born in Hartford, CT to the late Laura (Lafond) and William L. Smith, Sr., attended Springfield Technical High School and lived in Springfield most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the United States Navy. He received the World War II Victory medal, United Nation Service Ribbon, Korean Service Ribbon with one star.  Bill was employed by Chapman Valve, Springfield Shopping, Dow Jones, and retired from Holyoke News in 1994. He worked part-time for the Republican and Hampden County Jail. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette C. (Moras) Smith of S. Hadley, his two daughters, Lynn Schwartz of Holyoke and Lisa Towle and her husband Michael of Westfield, his sister, Beverly Cook of Tampa, FL, his cherished grandchildren, Erika and Jessica Schwartz of Quincy and Ryan, Jordan and Jaelyn Towle of Westfield and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son William L. Smith, III in 1990. A Private graveside service will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Westfield. There are no calling hours. www.firtionadams.com
