Abbey Elizabeth Majka (they/them), 22, of Feeding Hills, MA passed away on October 22, 2024, following a lengthy battle with mental illness. Born in Springfield, MA on June 6, 2002, they were the daughter of Wayne and Angela (Tomaszewski) Majka.
Abbey grew up in Agawam and Feeding Hills. Abbey was a member of Girl Scout Troop 20559 for nine years, earning the Bronze and Silver Awards. In 2020, they graduated pro-merito from Agawam High School. During high school, Abbey was a member of the French and Social Studies National Honors Societies and the indoor and outdoor track teams. Abbey ran the one-mile, earning two varsity letters, and threw the javelin.
Abbey was a student at Westfield State University pursuing a double degree in Environmental Science and Regional Planning. Abbey adored their professors and fellow classmates. They enjoyed learning and teaching others about plant species and sustainability initiatives. In the Spring of 2024, Abbey received an Academic Excellence Award in Regional Planning. Abbey was also a member of Westfield State’s Sustainability Club. In addition to attending school, Abbey worked part-time at TJ Maxx.
Abbey loved our family dog, Misty, who had recently passed away in August. Abbey would spoil her with a variety of treats and would cuddle with her all the time. Abbey had a passion for nature. They enjoyed regular hikes through Robinson State Park and on the trails of Provin Mountain. Abbey loved anime, especially One Piece. Abbey binge watched the entire series and was eagerly anticipating new episodes. Abbey was an avid sports fan, regularly attending their dad’s softball games and sister’s volleyball games, and watching the Montreal Canadiens. Abbey loved to play MarioKart. They would often play, and beat, people from around the world through online racing. Abbey was obsessed with swimming. They were always the first one in and usually the last one out of the pool and would cry when it came time to close it for the year.
Abbey was predeceased by their grandparents Fred Majka, Lorraine Majka, and John Tomaszewski. They are survived by their loving parents, Wayne and Angela, sister Erica, grandmother Joanne Tomaszewski, their family, and countless friends. Abbey’s bright smile and infectious laugh will be missed. They were loved by more people than they could ever know.
Abbey’s favorite color was purple. We invite those who can attend their services to wear something purple to honor Abbey’s memory.
Calling hours for Abbey will be on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 4-7pm at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 10am in Firtion-Adams, followed by a private burial ceremony.
