Alberta Humason Obituary

Alberta M. (Humphreys) Humason, 80, of Westfield, Massachusetts went home to be with the Lord, after her valiant struggle with cancer on December 7, 2025. She passed quietly at home surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and public servant, Alberta will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her husband Donald F. Humason, Sr., her son Donald F. Humason, Jr. and his wife Janice (Tracey) of Westfield, her daughter Apryl and her husband Henry Sheldon of Coral Springs, Florida, and her grandchildren Julia Sheldon, Mason Sheldon, and Quinn Humason; as well as extended family and dear friends. Born January 9, 1945, in Westfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Albert R. Humphreys and the late Mary E. (Noble) Humphreys. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Laurie (Humphreys) Sharples. Alberta attended Westfield public schools and graduated from the old Westfield High School in 1963. She obtained her Certification for Operating Room Technician at Springfield Technical Community College. She attended Holyoke Community College for her Associates Degree in Nursing and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She received her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from American International College. She worked at Noble Hospital in Orthopedics, Surgical Post-Op, and the Fowler Wing. She also worked as a Psychiatric Nurse at the Westfield Area Mental Health Crisis and Transitional Respite and as an Allergy Nurse for Dr. Joseph Keenan.  Much of her nursing career was spent as a School Nurse with the Westfield Public Schools at Southampton Road, Munger Hill, Abner Gibbs, and Highland.  She spent 21 years at Highland Elementary School before retiring in 2010. She was strong in her Christian faith and comforted by knowing where she would be spending eternity.  Over the course of her life Alberta attended Woronoco Union Church, Central Baptist Church, Westfield Evangelical Free Church, Christ the King Church, and Hope Community Church. She was proud to serve the Westfield Athenaeum for 12 years as a two-term elected Library Trustee. She was a member of the Westfield Sportsman’s Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Westfield Republican City Committee. Alberta will be remembered for the love, laughter, and special times she shared with her family, friends, dogs, and horses.  Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and of whom she was very proud. At the end, she was grateful to everyone for their friendship, prayers, cards, and visits. A celebration of Alberta’s life will be held after the holidays at the convenience of her family. Notice of the service will be given at that time. Memorial gifts may be made to the Whip City Animal Sanctuary. www.firtionadams.com
