Alice (St. Peter) Schmidt

Alice Schmidt, 78 of Westfield passed away peacefully on September 13, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Born on December 9, 1943 in Waterville, ME to the late George and Annie St. Peter she lived in ME until a teenager, then moving to Westfield area where she lived out the rest of her days. She is predeceased by her husband Louis Schmidt and many brothers and sisters. Alice leaves behind a devoted husband August Kropa, a daughter Sheilah Proulx, two grandsons Anthony Fierro and wife Lily, Jeffrey Clark and girlfriend Ally Sitler, a great granddaughter Ryanne Clark, brother George St. Peter and brother-in-law Edward Perotti and many nieces and nephews. Alice worked many years for Columbia Bicycle and retired from Hulmes Transportation. While working for Hulmes she placed 1st in regional Van Rodeo earning her a trip to Albuquerque NM for the Nationals and a year later another National in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. After her retirement, she enjoyed her passion of caring for animals. She went through life loving and being loved by them. Alice had an extraordinary way with animals. She would rescue any needing care, nursing back to health along with love and compassion. She also travelled to Germany with her husband. She was an avid snowmobiler in her younger years. Alice was loved by all for her honesty and no-nonsense personality which would usually leave you with more to think about after speaking to her. As the Matriarch of the family, she made sure everyone was taken care of, always had an ear to lend and advice to give. Alice or Bunny to some will be greatly missed. There are no good-byes for us, just beautiful memories and you will always be close in our hearts. Calling hours will be held on Saturday September 17, from 11 am till 1 pm. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. A service will follow at 1 pm and burial will be held in St. John’s Cemetery.
