Antonio Phaneuf Obituary

Antonio J. Phaneuf, 94, passed away at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born in Chicopee on May 5, 1927 to the late Philias and Beatrice (Thibeault) Phaneuf. Antonio served his country in the United States Navy during WWII from 1945-1946. Attaining the rank of Seaman 2nd Class and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. He was employed as a tool maker for over 40 years for Danaher Tools, formerly Moore Drop Forge and Eastco Hand Tools. Antonio was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, a member of their Holy Name Society and a member of the Schoenstatt Movement. He was also a member of the Westfield Council of the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, Antonio's family was his central focus. He and Cecile hosted many a back yard bash, creating many happy memories.  He enjoyed his vegetable garden, playing cards, cribbage, and watching the Boston Red Sox. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Soldiers' Home for their compassionate care, especially in his final days. Antonio was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Cecile B. (Goudreau) Phaneuf in 2003. He is survived by his loving children, Daniel Phaneuf and his wife Maureen and Denise Mercure and her husband Donald, all of Westfield and his four cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Mercure and Antonio and Andre Phaneuf. His funeral will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 9AM from the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd. Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Olsen St. Chicopee. Visiting hours for Antonio will be held on Sunday from 1-4PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Antonio’s name may be directed to the Alzheimers Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd.
