Carolyn M (Harris) Herrick

Carolyn M. Herrick passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24th while in the care of Vantage Health & Rehab of Westfield. Carolyn was born on April 5th, 1934 and recently celebrated her 91st birthday. She was the daughter of the late Ardra and Clifford Harris, who were residents of W. Springfield for many years. She was a 1952 graduate of W. Springfield High School and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse where she was recognized numerous times for her work ethic and 25 years of service at the Holyoke Rehabilitation Center in 2004. Carolyn married the love of her life, Stanley H. Ripley, in September, 1953. As a military family they lived in several states and had three children before he passed away in 1967; Roy Ripley (Ann), Robin Fournier (Norman), and Robert Ripley (Karen). She also leaves six grandchildren; Daniel Ripley, Jennifer Stueckle, Jessica Freer, Jocie Ripley, Michael Fournier, and Christopher Fournier. She also leaves ten great grandchildren. Carolyn was also predeceased by her ex-husband, Roger Herrick. As a resident of Vantage Health for the past seven years, Carolyn leaves many friends and caregivers who we’d like to thank. And, in particular, Eileen, Lexi, Donna, and a very special friend, Julia LaFogg, who was her roommate for the past five years. Carolyn loved to bake. When her children were young she designated Saturdays as her baking day; specializing in doughnuts, whoopie pies, and chocolate chip cookies. She also enjoyed entertaining and all the large family gatherings on special occasions and the holidays. As a cat lover, she had several over the years, along with a vast collection of cat memorabilia and Avon jewelry. The funeral will be held on Friday June 6th at 10:30 am at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Calling will precede the service for 10-10:30.
