Catherine Hallaman Obituary

Catherine J. (Crean) Hallaman, 85, passed away on March 5, 2021 at Genesis at Westfield Center. She was born in Holyoke, MA to the late James R. and Florence E. (Allen) Crean. A lifetime resident of Agawam, she was a 1953 graduate of Agawam High School. Kate entered the former Springfield Hospital School of Nursing and graduate with her nursing diploma in 1956. She was employed by Springfield Hospital as an assistant head nurse for ten years, before working for the Town of Agawam as the school nurse at Agawam High School, retiring after 32 years in 1998. She enjoyed her friends at Quail Run, doing craft, ice cream and wine socials there, lunch with the girls and swimming at Fitness First. Kate was a longtime member of Old First Church, Court Square in Springfield for more than 60 years, she served on several boards and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Agawam Golden Agers, Chapter 2 and Agawam Congregational Church. Sadly, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth R. Hallaman on August 25, 1993, her brother, James A. Crean in October 1999 and a great granddaughter Brooklyn in 2018. Kate is survived by her two loving daughters, LouAnn Lehan with Dan Lehan of West Springfield and Kathleen J. Ramsdell and her husband Scott of West Springfield, her sister Nancy E. Modzelewski and her husband Edward of Agawam, sister-in-law Anna Crean of Feeding Hills, her five cherished grandchildren, Megan K. Rohan of West Springfield, Kayleigh Botta and her husband Giovanni of Feeding Hills, Connor P. Lehan and his wife Nikki of Columbus, OH, Sean M. Lehan of Lakewood, WA and Hannah M. Goldrup of West Springfield her adored great grandchildren, Emiddio, Anna Kate, Giovanni and Brynn, her nieces, Michelle Dunn, Jennifer Crean, Bridget Ichton and Amy Szabla, and her nephew Edward Modzelewski, all of Agawam. At Kate’s request, her funeral will be held across the street from Agawam High School, where she proudly worked for over three decades, in Curran Jones Funeral Home, 745 Cooper St. Agawam. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday March 10, 2021 from 4-7 PM, with a service to follow at 7 PM in the funeral home which will be available via livestream at https://my.gather.app/remember/catherine-hallaman.  Burial will be private for the family in Springfield Street Cemetery, Feeding Hills. Her family would like to thank the staff at Quail Run and Genesis at Westfield Center for the care and support given to Kate and her family. Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.
