Colleen M. (Maunsell) Whitman

Colleen M. (Maunsell) Whitman, 58, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Westfield to Judith (Davidson) and the late William Maunsell. Colleen graduated from Westfield High and earned her bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College. She was a teacher at Talmadge Elementary School for over 30 years. She impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues throughout her lengthy career. She had a lifelong love for gymnastics that started as a child with her trying to use the swing set as the parallel bars. Colleen became a gymnastics coach for both Westfield and Central High schools. Colleen leaves behind her mother Judy, husband Michael, her beloved sons, Conor, Brendan and Liam (future daughter- in-law Brittany Kowalski), her siblings; Kevin, Kathleen and Eileen along with her nephews; Ryan, Devin, Kyle and Cameron along with many cousins, aunts, uncles and countless friends. She also leaves behind 4 furry grand dogs; Scrappy, Hewi, Chloe, and Bruin. Above all, Colleen was a proud and devoted Mom. No matter what her kids wanted to do, whether it be dance, hockey or a relaxing day kayaking; she would always be there for her boys and was their biggest fan. She enjoyed family vacations at Cape Cod with all of her favorite seafood stops and trips to Cuffy’s. Colleen also never missed a chance to make an appearance at Mohegan Sun. Colleen was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage. May the road rise to meet her and the sun shine warm upon her face.

Calling hours for Colleen will be on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 4-7 PM in Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. The funeral for Colleen will begin Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11 AM in Firtion-Adam Funeral Service, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery, Blandford.
