Consuello B (Beggs) Smith

Consuello B. Smith, 85, passed away in Springfield on March 7, 2023. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Perry R. Beggs and Marjorie (Nolan) Beggs, she grew up in Edina, MN, graduated from Edina High School and received a B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota. After graduation she moved to the Washington D.C. area where she worked and then met her future husband, Daniel J. Smith, They moved to Westfield, Massachusetts and have lived there for over 60 years. While working at Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company she attended Westfield State College and earned an elementary teaching certificate. She then taught in Southwick for three years and in the Westfield schools for 34 years. While teaching she continued to take advanced graduate classes at Westfield State College as she was very committed to her teaching career. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church of Westfield, a lifetime member of the National Education Association, and a member of the Retired Educators Association. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Beta Sigma Phi International, and the Westfield Woman's Club, holding many offices including the presidency of all three organizations. She leaves, her husband of 65 years, Daniel J. Smith, her sons Sean P. Smith of Westfield and Joel P. Smith, and her grandaughter, Emilia Grace Smith of Cary, NC. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Beggs and his wife Carole Beggs, of Minneapolis, MN, and Joel Beggs and his wife Eileen Beggs. She leaves many dear nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church in Westfield on Wednesday April 12th at 9:45 am followed by committal services at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA. at 11 am. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:15 am till 9:45 am Wednesday morning before the Mass in the church.
