Cornelius “Neil” A. Macierowski departed this life on October 16, 2024 at Mont Marie in Holyoke. Born in Ware, MA on January 8, 1940, to parents Constanty and Nellie (Pisczarkczyk) Macierowski. The family moved to Westfield, MA in his early childhood. As a youth he was an excellent swimmer, spending many hours at the Westfield YMCA. The swimming teams set new records at that time. He received Western Mass YMCA Class A awards in swimming championships in 1957. Weightlifting was also a lifelong exercise. As a young adult he enjoyed scuba diving off the East Coast. Neil graduated from St. Mary’s High in Westfield, class of 1957. He attended Merrimac College, North Andover graduating in 1965 from Westfield State University. He taught middle schools in Springfield, MA for 40 years, namely in Kiley and Van Sickle Middle Schools, where he was known as “Mr. Maz”. With his encouragement and input, underachieving students pursued various college degrees, who later thanked him. He loved his teaching career. Summer trips to Ogunquit and York Maine were spent enjoying the ocean. An avid reader of history, he also enjoyed trips with his wife to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England, Scotland and Wales. He was very fond of his home and enjoyed his neighbors and neighborhood. At St. Thomas in West Springfield, he taught CCD and was the assistant scout leader when his sons were students. He also coached Little League Baseball. He was predeceased sadly by his son Jason in 2002 and his parents Constanty and Nellie. Leaving to honor his memory are his wife, Alice J. (Bajurny) Macierowski, West Springfield, son Eric A. Macierowski, Queens, NY and brother-in-law Stephan Bajurny and his partner Cheryl Gregory of Southwick and Agawam.
