Daniel E Coffey

Daniel E. Coffey, 92, passed away on August 25, 2023 while holding his daughter’s hand.  He was born in Westfield, MA to the late Daniel E Coffey Sr and Evelyn (Stetson) Coffey.  Dan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1950.  He worked as a telephone lineman for 34 years, retiring from Verizon in 1989, and served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953.  Dan was a life member and past President of the Westfield Sportsman’s Club.  He was also past President of the William J. Denver Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America.  When home computer technology became “a thing”, Dan jumped in first with an Apple Macintosh and later to IBM machines.  He and his sister-in-law Jane enjoyed learning and sharing information about computers for many years.  As a Westfield resident for 83 of his 92 years, Dan loved to tinker around his house; he also loved Sunday dinners with his family.  He enjoyed sharing his penny collection with his grandson, and one of his favorite moments was reading to his granddaughter’s class when she was in 2nd grade.  Dan leaves his beloved wife of 70 years, Shirley (Glidden) Coffey, his daughter Diane Kelly and her husband, Ed.  Grampy also leaves his cherished grandchildren Catherine Kelly, Jonathan Kelly and his wife Destiny. Dan was pre-deceased by his brother, Charles M. Coffey. A celebratory service of Dan’s life will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family.  Memorial donations can be made to Baystate Hospice:  Baystate Health Foundation 280 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA  01199.
