It is with great sadness that the family of David Lee Housman announces his passing on June 3.
On January 10, 1946, David was born in New Freedom, Pennsylvania to Clarence Wilson Housman and Mabel Grace (Zeilman) Housman. After graduating from Susquehanna High School in 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce with his home base at Westover Airforce Base with temporary assignments in Guam. As an Inventory Management Specialist, it was his job to supply parts for aircraft on combat missions.
At a young age, he was always interested in all types of music, so he taught himself to play the guitar and mandolin. There was always music in our home. His friends with similar musical interests, would gather at each other's homes or community events to casually jam or entertain. David was a member of The Backrow Band at Grace Lutheran Church and the chorale group at the Westfield Senior Center.
He had a passion for outdoor activities, especially hiking, walking, biking, golfing and skiing. As an avid reader, he would share books with friends and always made time to relax with a good read.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Franceschini) Housman, daughters Sarah Marrin (James Marrin) of Feeding Hills and Amy Ringel of North Largo, Florida and his grandsons Owen Marrin and Sullivan Serafino-Marrin whom he loved dearly. Missing him also are his sister-in laws Linda Franceschini, Sandi Franceschini, and brother-in law John Franceschini and Sarrah Jane Housman from Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Jack Housman also from Spring Grove. It is also likely that Dave's music buddies will miss his funny and quirky renditions of some of his old favorites.
A funeral service for David will be held on Wednesday June 12 at 11:00 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1552 Westfield Street W, West Springfield, MA.
