Dennis A. Byrne 68 of Granville, MA passed away on April 11, 2022. Dennis was born in Newark New Jersey. He worked his way through school first pursuing a career as an LPN in 1979, became an RN in 1980 and subsequently earned a Master’s Degree from William Patterson University. He was also a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. Dennis went on to work at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville New Jersey for 17 years moving into leadership roles. He continued his nursing career at University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. He became dedicated to hospice nursing toward the end of his career where his nursing skills, empathy and calm demeanor helped many patients and their families embark on their end-of-life journeys.
Dennis leaves his husband Robert (Bob) M. Laptew of Granville, MA, his father in-law and mother in-law Robert and Karen Laptew, a sister in-law Colleen Berndt, his brothers Leonard Byrne and his wife Kim, Richard Byrne and his wife Bernadine, his sisters Joanne Cruz and her husband Ismael, Donna Byrne, Grace Byrne and partner Anthony Torre, Diana Kelly and her husband Matt, and Cheryl Cassidy and her husband David. He was pre-deceased by his father Leonard Byrne, his mother Joan Harris and his brother Douglas Byrne. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephews.
Dennis had a circle of friends he held close to his heart including his friend of 40+ years, Roger Swett of Saddlebrooke, AZ.
Dennis was a quiet, friendly, and thoughtful man who would often bring joy to those who knew him with his quick wit and comedic timing. He was a tender-hearted human being who made people feel cared for with his gentle assuring voice and meaningful acts of kindness. He would appreciate any intentional act of kindness made in his memory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
