Donald Edward Houle, 84, devoted husband of 60 years to his beloved wife Barbara Jane (Hentnick) Houle, passed away unexpectedly on January 5th, 2025. Donald was born in Torrington, Connecticut, to the late Alcide Houle Sr., and Katherine (McEvady) Houle.
Donald entered the military in 1958 and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Fulton. Over the next four years, Donald also worked in the Pentagon decoding top secret messages for the U.S. government. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Donald went on to earn his GED and worked at Hamilton Standard for over 30 years, first as a machinist, eventually working his way up to a General Foreman. Donald was an avid golfer, a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, and thoroughly enjoyed both playing and watching his grandchildren compete in sports. He was a Life member of the Chicopee Elks Club and a member of the American Legion Post 124. He could always be found with a good book in his hand by his favorite author, John Grisham. Donald’s favorite thing to do was spend time with his beloved family.
Donald was predeceased by three siblings, Marie Brackenhoff, Alcide “Jiggs” Houle Jr., Armand Houle, and his brother-in-law, Peter Hentnick. He is survived by his remaining siblings and their spouses, Robert Houle (Nancy) of Belchertown, Frances Juchno of Belchertown, Denis Houle (Mary Beth) of Granby, Lawrence Houle (Celeste) of Florida and his brother-in-law Stanley Hentnick Jr. (Susan) of Westfield.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved children and their spouses, Michael Houle (Deborah) and Kathy Houle (David Hoynoski), both of Westfield. He was the cherished grandfather of two grandchildren and their significant others, Brent Houle (Tori) and Alexa Houle (Brendan). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 10th from 10 am -12 noon at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. A service will follow at 12 noon. Burial with military honors will be held in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Donald E.
