Donald John Nemec, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 16th. He was the only child of John J. Nemec and Enice (Hanton) Nemec. A graduate of Westfield Trade School, he worked for decades as a machinist in Westfield and later as property manager in Holyoke. Don was a lifelong resident of Westfield who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and racing and, of course, family. His love for fishing, either on the lakes in the Berkshires or on the ocean, was his joy. Gaining a Commercial Fisherman’s license allowed him to pursue his passion while also getting paid!! He shared this with his family and friend's and all enjoyed years of fun and happy memories. His years as a hunter took him all around New England and eventually to tagging a bull moose with his son, on one of his many trips to Alaska. Every year he worked hard in his garden growing various types of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and peppers, and his favorite, yellow beans. Which he fought the rabbits to enjoy. In his younger years, he dabbled in motorcycle and car racing, where he met the Czarnecki brothers and his future wife. Unfortunatly in 2011, his wife of 53 years, Joanne (Czarnecki) Nemec passed away after a long illness. Donald is survived by his children, Karen Hendrickson of Westfield, Donald M. Nemec of Anchorage, AK, Sharon Nemec of Liberty, SC, and John J. Nemec of Westfield. His grandchildren, Adam Hendrickson, Kimberly Baker and husband Bradley, Allyson Moauro and husband Brandon, and Sarah Nemec. Great grandson Wyatt Moauro and great granddaughter Mina Baker. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to a charity of your choice.
