Doris Louise Ammirato (Markham), age 87, of Westfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Care One Redstone in East Longmeadow, following a brief stay after a long and courageous illness.
Doris was born on December 29, 1937, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, to the late Elliot H. Markham and Louise Stafford Markham. A proud graduate of the High School of Commerce in Springfield, Massachusetts, Doris began her career at Westinghouse before her marriage to her former husband, George R. Ammirato, who predeceased her.
Doris dedicated 23 years of her life to the community, serving as an Administrative Supervisor for the Department of Social Services before her retirement. She was known for her wonderful work ethic and her sharp intelligence.
Outside of work, Doris was very energetic, funny, and full of life. She had a deep passion for reading and loved creating beauty, whether through decorating her home or tending to her gardening. Her faith was important to her, and she loved attending her church in Montgomery, Massachusetts. Doris also had a special place in her heart for animals and was very fond of many family pets throughout her life.
Above all, Doris was incredibly proud of her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Doris leaves behind her three loving children: her son, George Ammirato; her daughter, Cheryl Ammirato Fuller; and her daughter, Dina Ammirato Slayton.
She was a devoted grandmother to Jamin Fuller, Crysta Ascolillo, Ryan Slayton and Hannah Ammirato and leaves behind four cherished great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Brendan Fuller.
She is survived by five siblings: James Williams, Donald Williams, Kenneth Markham, Larry Markham and Dennis Markham. She was predeceased by her three siblings, Elaine Lubelczyk, Glenn Williams, and Elliot Markham. Doris leaves behind many dear family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather for Calling Hours on Wednesday, November 19th, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA.
A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Springfield.
