Dr. James Slowick passed away on October 30, 2023, at Baystate Noble Hospital after a short illness. Jim was born in West Springfield, MA on June 30, 1937, to John and Mary (Szlachetka) Slowick. He attended West Springfield schools, and then attended American International College in Springfield, MA. He graduated with a dental degree from Tufts Dental School in Boston in 1962. He served in the United States Army at Fort Eustis, VA. Upon completion of his Army service, he established a private practice in dentistry in West Springfield, practicing there for 39 years. After retirement, he was a hospice volunteer for thirteen years. He was married on September 2, 1963, to MaryAnn E. (Quink) Slowick who predeceased him in 2022. Jim is survived by his children and their spouses, Timothy and wife, Laura, David and wife, Laurie, Jeffrey and wife, Wendy, and his daughter, Renee and husband, Jim. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great granddaughters who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte, and brothers Edwin, Frederick, J. Robert, Eugene and Richard. He leaves many close friends to cherish his memory. Jim was a devout Catholic and a member of the Rosary Sodality of St. Peter and St. Casimir Church in Westfield, MA. In his spare time, he was a car aficionado, with his 1967 Pontiac LeMans his favorite ride. He was an excellent cook and hosted many gatherings at his home in West Springfield. He loved gardening, classical music and spending time with family and friends. A special thanks to all his caregivers at Baystate Noble Hospital who provided him with excellent care over the past few months. Calling hours are private. There will be a Mass of Celebration at 11:30 AM on November 6, 2023, at St. Peter and St. Casimir Parish, 22 State Street in Westfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
