Edward G Fitzgerald

Edward G. Fitzgerald, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Baystate Noble Hospital. He was born in Westfield to the late Francis and Mary Ann Fitzgerald. A graduate of St. Mary's High School, Edward furthered his education at Monson Academy. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.

Edward had a long career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1984. He then spent 17 years working at the General Shepard Apartments. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 124 and an avid weightlifter, homing pigeon racer, golfer, gardener and played his lottery numbers hoping to win for his kids. Above all, Edward cherished his Sunday drives with his wife, Rena, and the time they spent together.

Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rena (Cabana) Fitzgerald, and his siblings Peggy, Katherine, Doris, Francis, Gerald, Mae, and Anna. He leaves behind his children: Sean and his wife Bambi of Westfield, Noreen and her husband Rick Fields of Westfield, Joann and her husband Rick Dassatti of New Hampshire, Bonnie and her husband Jeff LaPlante of Westfield, and Beth Fitzgerald and her partner Bruno Antico of Westfield. He was also the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren: Nathan, Nicholas, Caitlin, Ashley, Allison, Jake, Samantha, Christy, Benjamin, Noah, Simon, Kaeleigh, and Molly, and 7 great-grandchildren: Elsie, Lincoln, William, Theo, Rowan, Landen, and Edward. He was also Uncle Ebby to several nieces and nephews.

Eddie was one of the most caring, loving, generous, and funny guys, who always had a joke up his sleeve. He wanted to know everything about you and remember everything you said.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at St. Mary’s Church, Westfield. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. www.firtionadams.com
