Edward J. Florek, 101, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He was born in Westfield on January 14, 1925 to the late lgnancy and Salamea (Ciewiec) Florek. Edward was a lifelong resident of Westfield and attended Westfield Schools. He proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Edward worked for many years at Stephens Paper Mill from 1948-1980. Following that, he worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for Commonwealth Packaging Company in West Springfield before retiring in 1986. After retirement, he continued working part-time for Commonwealth Packaging until 1993. Edward was a proud member of the AMVETS, the Holy Name Society at Holy Trinity Church, and the Central Mass Racing Pigeon Club, where he had been a member since 1955. He was also involved with the Pioneer Pigeon Club. Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising, training, and racing pigeons. Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jessie Florek (Pozicki) and by his daughter, Joanne Makara. To cherish his memory, he leaves his daughter, Linda McCarthy and her husband John of Ware. He further leaves a son-in-law, his six grandchildren, along with several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Edward was also predeceased by his 10 siblings, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. The Liturgy of Christian Burial for Edward will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 10:30 AM in Holy Trinity Church, Westfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Westfield. Calling hours will precede the Mass from 9-10 AM in Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield.
