It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Evelio Mejias Velez a cherished family man. Evelio was born January 8, 1940 in Arecibo, PR. He later moved to New Jersey where he met his love of 55 years, Lucia Torres Garcia. They raised their family from that point forward. After living in Long Branch, NJ, they moved to Westfield, MA in 1976. They then were married on May 28, 1978. He departed us on March 21, 2025. He loved cooking, fishing, and crabbing and would jump in the car for spontaneous trips. He also deeply enjoyed music, food, rum, and most importantly family. Evelio was beloved by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lucia Mejias (Garcia Torres), his daughters Juanita Mejias and Maria Delgado (Mejias) and her spouse Angel Delgado; his grandchildren Angelica Correa (Diaz), Amanda Arnold (Diaz), and Alejandro Delgado; great grandchildren Elliott Arnold and Jayden Correa, as well as his daughter Mayda Mejias and her three daughters. He is predeceased by his parents, Teresa Velez and Gil Mejias. Also, his brother (Gil Mejias), his sister (Rosario Mejias). He leaves his only surviving brother Ismael Mejias. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He has completed his journey of Esposo, Papi, Abuelo, and Papa. Rest until we see each other again. His funeral will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 9:30 from the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA followed by a Mass at 10:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St. Westfield. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7PM in the funeral home. www.firtionadams.com
