Evelyn A (Slasinski) Duchesneau Obituary

Evelyn A. (Slasinski) Duchesneau, 88, passed away on July 18, 2026 with her daughter Wendy by her side. Evelyn was born in Westfield on January 4, 1938, she was the daughter of the late James Slasinski and Bernice (Wozniak) Slasinski. Evelyn was raised in Westfield and attended Holy Trinity School. She later married the love of her life Nelson Duchesneau settling in West Springfield to raise their 4 children. She eventually returned to Westfield with her daughter Wendy and son in law Tom who were lovingly devoted to her care for 16 years. Evelyn worked as a receptionist for the former Anitec in Holyoke and later as a sales clerk at Staples in West Springfield. She was known for her warm smile, strong work ethic, and kind nature. Evelyn was very talented and enjoyed knitting, making cards, dolls, sewing her very popular beanie rabbits for all occasions. She was an excellent baker and in her later years enjoyed coloring. She had a special appreciation for classic cars and motorcycles. She loved to travel to Tennessee and visit her granddaughter Nina. The highlight of one trip was a Graceland visiting various zoo’s brought her great joy, especially Nashville. She enjoyed the beaches of Rhode Island where she spent many summer days. She enjoyed watching the Celtics, Patriots and bruins with Wendy and Tom squeaking her rubber chicken, especially after a victory Evelyn is survived by her children, Lance Duchesneau of Japan and his former wife Denise, Scott Duchesneau of Amherst, Wendy Burke and her husband Tommy of Westfield, and Amy Ramos and her husband, Jose, of Amherst. She also leaves seven cherished grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, her sister-in-law, Rita Slasinski, and her close cousins, Joan Boyland and her husband, Jerry. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her brother, Fran Slasinski, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Duchesneau. Evelyn's greatest joy was her family, and she will be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit, and the many happy memories she created with those she loved. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Calling hours will be held on Friday July 24 from 4-6 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Her funeral will take place of Saturday July 25, at 9 am from the funeral home at 10 am in St. Mary's Church 30 Bartlett Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
