Giuseppe "Joe" Cannata

Giuseppe “Joe” Cannata, 72, passed away at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. He was born in Pozzallo, Italy to the late Giovanni and Giovanna (Sannino) Cannata. In his youth, Joe worked as a seaman, and for Home Lines Cruises aboard the “Oceanic” in the maintenance department, where he met the love of his life. He also worked as a sheet press worker for Digital Equipment Corporation, for 20 years and most recently as a cook for the Department of Youth Services in Westfield and Springfield, for 15 years, retiring in 2010. Joe was a member of the Mt. Carmel Society in Springfield, Mt. Moriah Lodge of Masons in Westfield and the Melha Shriners. He loved to watch soccer, especially his favorite team Juventus, watching the news, wintering in Florida, and enjoying the beaches of Rhode Island. On Joe’s 40th birthday, he became a US Citizen, and took great pride in this accomplishment, as well as a great pride in the family he created here in United States.  Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Melanie (Tenerowicz) Cannata of Westfield, his loving daughters, Crista MG Cannata and her husband Christopher Jones of Fitchburg and Melissa L. Raymond and her husband Brian of Wakefield, his two sisters, Vincenza Cannata and Rita Cannata, both of Italy, a granddaughter (his sweetheart) Makenzie Raymond, and two step-granddaughter’s Kathryn and Elizabeth Jones and a brother-in-law Angelo Calvo of Italy. He was predeceased by a sister Maria Calvo. A Funeral Mass for Joe will be held on Tuesday at 10AM in Holy Trinity Church, Elm St. Westfield, MA, with a visiting hour to precede the Mass from 8:30-9:30AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA 01085. Burial will be held in the spring at Silver Street Cemetery, Granville.
