Blandford-Irving L. Bean, 95, died Monday, May 23, 2022 in a local nursing home. He was born on November 23, 1926 in Chester to the late Leo and Nancy (Witherell) Bean. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II serving in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre on the USS Key and the USS Edwin A. Howard. He worked at Foster Machine, for the town of Russell, was a town constable and special police officer for the town on Blandford. He also worked at Old Colony Envelope as a Die Cutter for 39 years and retired in 1988. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont. Irving was a member of the American Legion, life member of the National Rifle Association and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Association. He leaves his wife of 72 years Lorraine A. (Brueno) Bean, their children Lorrie A. Bean and Fred Benda of Russell, Albert I. and Gail (Babinski) Bean of Westfield, Brian J. Bean of Mission Viejo, CA, Robin A Bean and Catherine Haliday of Blandford. He also leaves his 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren and his sister Christine Ferst of Westfield. A graveside service will be held in Norwich Bridge Cemetery in Huntington at the family’s convenience. Donations may be made to the Hilltown Ambulance or the Blandford Fire Dept.
