James J Brennan Obituary

James John Brennan, of Westfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

James was born on August 17, 1932, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Harold and Anna Brennan. After graduating from Technical High School in Springfield in 1950, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean conflict.

In 1956, James married Jacquelyn Gaffney, beginning a 41-year marriage filled with family, love, and memories. Together they raised their four children, Mark, Dawn, Lisa, and Scott, who remained an important part of Jim’s life throughout the years.

Following Jacquelyn’s passing, James married Kathryn Hoffman, and they shared 11 years together until her passing. In his later years, James was fortunate to share companionship and friendship with Martha Rios of Westfield.

After retiring from Verizon in 1990 following 39 years of service, Jim had more time to enjoy the things he loved. One of his greatest passions was riding his motorcycle with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He traveled throughout the United States and Canada, making memories and enjoying the freedom of the open road.

Jim also enjoyed golfing and had a special love for model trains. His creativity and enthusiasm for the hobby eventually grew into an expansive Christmas village in his home. For Jim, the village was more than a collection of trains and decorations—it was something he enjoyed creating and sharing with those around him, becoming a special part of his family’s holiday memories.

He leaves behind his children, Mark Brennan; Dawn and John Faison; Lisa Brennan; and Scott and Emily Brennan, as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Above all, Jim will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, valued his family, and created memories that will remain with those who loved him.

His family will carry those memories forward—the stories, the laughter, the holiday traditions, the adventures, and the countless moments that made Jim who he was.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever remain a part of the family he cherished.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 11AM in Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield,  Calling hours will precede the service from 10-11AM in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, Massachusetts.
