James J Nodwell, Sr.

James J. Nodwell, Sr., 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his family. James was born in Hartford, CT to the late Ralph and Frances (Warren) Nodwell. James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1972-1973 and continued to serve in the Air National Guard for 36 years, completing tours in Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. After he retired, he enjoyed working on small engines and helping his neighbors. He served his community as a firefighter for the Russell Fire Department where he achieved the rank of Asst. Chief, and as a member of the National Ski Patrol at the Blandford Ski Area. Jim was an avid outdoorsman with a love of fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Rita M. (Kozon) Nodwell, his two loving children, Joanna Nodwell of Russell and James J. Nodwell, Jr. and his wife Breanna of Chester, his brother Richard Nodwell of Burlington, CT and his cherished grandsons, Nathan and Joshua. Visiting hours for Jim will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 9-10:30AM in the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by a Mass at 11AM in Holy Family Catholic Church, 5 Main St. Russell, MA. Burial with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 10AM in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam.
