Joseph Picard, 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Renaissance Manor Nursing Home on Cabot Street in Holyoke. He was born in Holyoke to the late Arminie and Doretta (Larocque) Picard and was a graduate of Holyoke Trade High School. Joseph served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969-1972 attaining the rank of Sergeant. He continued his service in the United States Air Force reserve for twenty one years, retiring on September 13, 2008. During that time he was activated and served in Operation Desert Sheild/ Storm, where he received Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service medals with 3 devices, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 3 devices, National Defense service Medal with 1 device and the Armed Service Reserve Medal. Joe was employed by MassMutual Insurance Company as a warehouse supervisor for many years and also as a mail star operator in the Mail Room there, he also worked for Whalley Computer Associates as a driver and for Lecrenski Brothers as a school bus driver. Being a proud veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post in Westfield. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Janet S. (Drapeau) Picard of Westfield, his two daughters, Jamie C. Barnes and her husband Matthew of Westfield and Jessica R. Whalley and her husband Christopher of Southwick, his brothers, Frank Picard and his wife Ann of Florence and the late John Picard of Springfield, his sister Joanne Murphy and her husband John of Westfield and his cherished five grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob, Paul, Lorelai and Braelynn as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Joe will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:30 from the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, 30 Bartlett St. Westfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow the Mass on Friday in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam. Visiting hours will be held for Joe on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
