Joseph Rouse Obituary

Many family and friends are heartbroken over the unexpected passing of Joseph A. Rouse on January 10, 2025. Although we may all know him by different names such as Joey, Dad, Pop, and maybe some more interesting options, I’m sure we can all agree that he left a positive impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him.

Joe was predeceased by his sister Laura who passed in 1984. He is survived by his wife Christina B. Rouse, parents Carol M. Palmer, Rock Palmer, John Rouse, and Judy Rouse children Sarah Rouse, Rebecca and Nicholas Brill and Sunny Rouse, grandchildren Anthony, Elijah, Cole, and Evelyn, as well as many other beloved family members such as his godmother, Karen and her husband Allen Fusco, Jeff, Erin and children, Scott, Robin and their boys, Dr. Kathleen and McKenna, Chris (Donna), Aaron, and Lauren. Joe also had many friendships that were equally as important as family.

Joe was born in Corning NY on November 16, 1968, and eventually came to spend the majority of his life residing in Westfield MA. In high school Joe was a passionate player on the baseball team which reflected his lifelong love of the sport. Many happy memories were created attending the Boston Red Sox games as well as anything else baseball related he could be involved in. Sports of all kinds were a wonderful way for Joe to bond with others and use his gift of the gab. If you got him talking about his highly competitive fantasy leagues that he had with family and friends, you were in for the long haul!

Joe spent many years putting all of his energy into his career as the Director of Public Health for the City of Westfield. While others spent much of the COVID pandemic in fear and uncertainty, Joseph was invested in doing whatever it would take to keep the city safe. After retiring from this position, Joe was looking forward to beginning his “dream job” as a Subject Matter Expert for the Massachusetts Health Officers Association, however did not get to begin this journey.

It cannot be emphasized enough the strong relationships Joe had with his family. Whether it be Sunday dinners at Nonnie’s, visits with the Jones’ relatives, or phone calls during the game with his dad, Joseph always cherished quality time with loved ones. He will be devastatingly missed in so many of these spaces but never forgotten. The memories filled with love and humor will carry through many stories told that will continue the laughs he made sure rooms were never lacking.

Calling hours for Joe will be held on Friday, January 17th from 4-7 pm at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. The funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: Westfield Little League, PO Box 1066, Westfield MA 01086
