Joseph Wagner Obituary

Joseph M. Wagner, 84, of Westfield, passed away on December 5, 2025. Born in Northampton, MA, in September 1941 to Mitchell and Mary (Zdaniewicz) Wagner, Joe grew up with strong family values and a deep work ethic. He completed his education at Westfield Trade High School and married the love of his life, Rosalie M. (Pacinella) Wagner, in 1959. Together they built a home filled with loyalty, laughter, and enduring devotion. Joe began his career with Sears & Roebuck Co. in Westfield and West Springfield before founding Wagner Rug Co. out of his home in 1968. As the business grew, he moved it to Mainline Drive and eventually to the current location on East Main Street, where he became known for his integrity, craftsmanship, and commitment to his customers and community. An avid saltwater fisherman on Cape Cod, Joe found joy on the water. He also loved snowmobiling and grass drag racing, and he enthusiastically supported local youth sports, especially Westfield Youth Hockey. Joe spent many memorable days at Riverside Raceway as well as following Nascar and he cherished his winters in St. Croix, where he made lifelong friends. He enjoyed local live music and supporting his musician friends. Joe was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Westfield. Besides his beloved wife Rosalie, Joe leaves his daughter Debra Westgate and her husband Alan of Dartmouth; his grandsons J. Paolucci of Leyden, MA, and Nico Paolucci and his wife Nicole of Westfield; and his great-grandchildren Luca and Rocco, who brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his brothers Ronald Wagner of Florida and Robert Wagner of Maine, along with many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his son, Kenneth Wagner, in 2010. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 15, from 3–6 p.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. There will be a celebration of life to follow for all family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sister Caritas Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center, 217 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to Toys for Tots, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172.
