Karen Majeski Obituary

Karen M. (Malinowski) Majeski, 81, of Waterford, CT, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025 with the support of family at home. She was born on February 26, 1943, in Westfield, Massachusetts, stepdaughter of the late Milton J. Holmes and daughter of the late Helen (Burek) Holmes. Karen attended local schools in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. She attended classes at the University of Massachusetts, equipping her with administrative skills that would serve her throughout her career. She married Paul (married 62 years), and together they raised five children: daughter, Lisa (Hermosa Beach, CA), and sons Michael (Loxahatchee, FL), David (Simpsonville, SC), Eric (Chicago, IL), and Brian (Waterford, CT). Her family was her pride and joy, and she was a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren. Beginning in 1969, the family resided in Southington, Connecticut, where Karen was an active presence in her children’s lives, attending and volunteering at countless sporting events and supporting their endeavors. Approximately 15 years ago, she and Paul relocated to Waterford, Connecticut, where they embraced their love for being near the ocean. During the summer months, she could often be found with her beach chair planted in the sand and engrossed in a good novel. Professionally, Karen held positions as a bank teller, demonstrating her adaptability and strong work ethic. Her most notable achievement was her nearly 20-year tenure at the University of Connecticut Medical Center, where she advanced to the role of Assistant to the Dean of the Medical School. Her dedication and professionalism were highly regarded, and she played a pivotal role in supporting the institution’s mission. Outside of her professional life, Karen had a passion for sports, both as spectator of professional teams and as a fervent supporter of her family’s athletic pursuits. She loved to travel, exploring new places and cultures with enthusiasm. She was an avid bowler and bridge player who won many competitions throughout the years. She was a faithful, lifelong member of the Catholic church and was ready to meet our Savior, Jesus Christ. Karen’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and a zest for life. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. A wake and funeral are planned to honor Karen’s life. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 31st for 4:30 pm till 6:30 pm at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA.
