Lionel (Butch) Joaquin passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 29, 2026 at Noble Hospital.
Born in on November 28, 1948 in Springfield, MA to the late Lionel Joaquin and Velia (Mantoni) Joaquin.
Lionel is predeceased by his parents, sister Geraldine (Joaquin) Moriarty, brother in law, Thomas Moriarty, nephew Thomas Moriarty Jr, and many aunts and uncles.
He leaves his loving wife of almost 58 years, Joyce (Lyons), daughters, Susan (Joaquin) Marcotte (James), Diane Joaquin and son in law Anthony Bradley.
Affectionately called Papa he leaves his beloved six grandchildren, Valerie Joaquin, Alexander Joaquin, Olivia Joaquin, Sophia Bradley, Destiny (Joaquin) DelMonte (Mark) Courtney (Joaquin) Franklin (Ross) Six great grandchildren, Carter, Colton, Lyla, Penelope, Atlas Lionel and soon to be Phoebe. He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and loved watching them grow.
He leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins, his brother and sister in law Richard and Nancy Lyons. Many friends, and especially Steve and Maureen Malke.
Served in the United States Army in Lawton, Ok and Schweinfurt, Germany.
Proud past member of the Roofers & Slaters Union 248 and lifelong industrial roofer, owner of Sky-Tech Roofing Company.
He was an avid antique collector and loved antique cars.
The family would like to thank the following for all their help and loving care, Dr. Ekaterina Yavarovich of Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA, the Drs, nursing staff, respiratory therapists at Noble Hospital, and the EMT’s of the Westfield Fire Department.
Calling hours will be at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, Broad St. Westfield MA on May 11, 2026 from 11 AM -12:45 PM with a funeral home service to follow at 12:45 PM. A committal service will immediately follow at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA.
