Marie “Rose” R. (Fournier) Joyal, 86, formerly of Chicopee, passed away on December 29, 2020. She was born in Holyoke, MA to the late Edward and Alice (Boulanger) Fournier who had immigrated from Montmagny, Quebec. She graduated from Precious Blood High School in Holyoke and attended Holyoke Community College. She lived most of her life in Chicopee and worked most of her life in the business office at Pat’s Supermarket on Cabot St. Holyoke until her retirement in 1999. For much of her life she worshiped at St. Rose de Lima parish in Chicopee. In her leisure time Rose enjoyed cooking and gardening, and for many years bowling at St. Patrick’s social center in South Hadley. Rose loved vacations and travel, especially to Cape Cod and winter getaways to warm places with her family. Holiday celebrations were a favorite, she loved the family dinners followed by a tradition of playing cards. Rose is survived by her loving daughters, Linda A. Martin of Southampton and Donna M. Wiley and her husband Carl of Westfield, her cherished grandchildren, Evan Jacob Martin and Ned Phillip Martin, her brother, Joseph “Lionel” Fournier and his wife MaryJane of Erie, PA and her sisters, Irene Fournier of Holyoke and Marie “Denise” Millane and her husband Herbert C. of Liverpool, NY. Rose also leaves her seven nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph “Roger” Fournier. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 11th at 11AM in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke RD. Westfield. Burial will be held at a later date in Precious Blood Cemetery, South Hadley.
