Mark A Smith Obituary

Sigung Mark A. Smith, 66, of Westfield, MA passed away on July 2nd, 2026, to be with the Lord.  He was born on November 29, 1959, in Buffalo NY, the son of Albertha Leontine Smith (Robinson).


In 1980, Mark graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield, MA with a focus in Business and was an active member of their Wrestling and Football programs, he also joined the US Army in 1980 and proudly served his country until honorably discharged in 1984. He was stationed in the United States and abroad in Holbulk Germany as a Private, serving with the 8th Infantry Division as a M1 Tank mechanic and was an active member of the US Army wrestling program.


He was pre-deceased by his mother, Albertha Leontine Smith (Robinson),his former wife and dear friend, Lynn Smith (Mazza) with whom he shared 23 years of marriage and survived by his three sons, Marc Smith and wife Nicole of Texas, Jeramy Smith, Sean Smith and wife Jenna of Massachusetts, daughter Erica Mayheu (Smith) and husband Timothy, Marks lifelong friends and brothers Shane A. Chance of Connecticut and Anthony (Tony) Brown of Massachusetts; 3 step-daughters;17 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and hundreds of devoted students.


He is best known for his love of all thing’s martial arts, sports, like bodybuilding, wrestling, boxing, football, auto racing and baseball to name just a few in addition to outdoor activities such as fishing.


In 1976, Sigung Smith began studying martial arts under Master Chang in Han Poo (a style of Hapkido) and new Jujitsu, which began his journey in the art throughout his life, especially teaching children, the next generation of martial artists.  He was a direct disciple of the late Grand Master Kalaii Kano Griffin along with the teachings of Sijo Adriano D. Emperado, one of the founders of Kajukenbo.  Over the years Sigung continued to train with many other renown martial artists and was recorded in the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Sigung Smith taught Kajukenbo Karate, Kenpo, Jujitsu, Hapkido, and Tai Chi with his established Kajukenbo school in Westfield Massachusetts (Black Dragon Kajukenbo).


Visiting hours honoring Sigung Mark A. Smith’s life will be held from 10:30am to 12:45pm followed by a service at 12:45PM on Thursday July 16th, 2026, at the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street in Westfield, MA, followed by Military Honors and Committal Service at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA. www.firtionadams.com
