Michael A. Danek, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023. He was born in Montgomery, MA to the late Peter and Bernice (Guzewicz) Danek and was a 1947 graduate of Westfield Vocational High School. He was employed by Columbia Manufacturing where he was a draftsman for 29 years. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Mike served on the Westfield Housing Authority, was a Ward 2 City Councilor for two terms, and was a member of the Westfield Elks Lodge #1481 where he served as a Chaplain for many years. Mike was an avid outdoorsman mostly known for his love of fishing and hunting with his son Michael and had a “green thumb” when tending to his vegetable gardens in the summer. One of his greatest joys was spending time with family on special occasions, holidays and random family gatherings.
Michael is survived by his wife of 72 years, Kathryn (Saidak) Danek of Westfield and his children, Michael P. Danek, Valerie (Rod) Maslauskas, Patricia Ryan, Diane Zanolli, Carol Pacinella, daughter-in-law Lynn (Danek) Taylor, and a close niece Jennifer Hartman. He was predeceased by his son Steven in 2012 and son-in-law Ronald Zanolli in 1987. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Kristine, Gina Marie, Stephanie, Jeffrey and Justin, and eight great-grandchildren. He leaves his brother Peter Danek and was predeceased by his siblings Thomas, Anthony, Edward, Anna Chmura, Frances Burgielewicz and Bernice Peterson.
A mass will be held on Friday, August 18th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Westfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church at 335 Elm Street, Westfield, MA 01085, or to a charity of one’s choice. www.firtionadams.com
