It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael J. Garcia on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He was born in Holyoke on October 12, 1977 to the late Robert and Elaine (Toporowski) Garcia and graduated from Westfield Vocational High School. Driven by a deep sense of duty and a fierce desire to protect those he loved, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Michael proudly served from 1998 to 2003, achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He carried this same loyalty, courage, and brotherhood throughout his life.
Following his honorable discharge, Mikey returned to Westfield where he held several positions before settling into a career in the construction field. He was an extremely hard worker, meticulous and disciplined. He will be greatly missed by all those he touched at J L Raymaakers & Sons, where his leadership and legacy leaves a lasting impact.
What mattered most to Mikey was his family. Once you were in his life, you were family. The love and pride he had for all the people he cared for was obvious in the way he talked about and protected them. He loved with his whole heart and always showed up whenever he was needed. Mikey had a sense of humor that could change the entire mood in a room. He made people laugh effortlessly, and somehow always knew how to make things lighter. Being around him was easy because he made life more enjoyable simply by being himself. Throughout his life, Mikey enjoyed many hobbies including working out and video games. If a new cool “toy” was out there, he had to have it. Mike enjoyed cooking, always trying new recipes and sharing dishes at gatherings. He believed in living life to the fullest and did so with 100 percent of himself.
In addition to his parents, Mikey will be forever missed by all those who loved him including his fiance, Amanda Konsewicz and her sister Samantha Konsewicz of Westfield, his siblings James Garcia and his wife Debra of Westfield, Deborah Balser and her husband Tim of Westfield, Christine Sico and her husband Danny Sico of Huntington, Linda Garcia and partner Jake Patla of West Springfield, and Lori Bowen and her husband John Bowen of Westfield, his nieces and nephews Jessica (Garcia) Stanwood and her husband Jeffrey Stanwood, Karen (Garcia) Raymaakers and her husband John L. Raymaakers III, Michael Bowen, Matthew Bowen, Meghan Bowen, Morgan “Mo” Patla, Rylee Dubay, Brynn Dubay, great nieces and nephews Jaxon, Joelle, Ella and Jack and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at Firtion-Adams, 76 Broad Street in Westfield, on Monday, June 1 from 4-7 pm.
A private service for friends and family will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Main St. in Agawam, on Tuesday at 10am.
