Norberto Otero Obituary

Norberto Otero, 97, of Westfield, Ma, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in the Hospital with his daughter by his side, holding his hand.

He was born on August 30, 1928 in Cayey, PR, to Candido Otero and Dolores Torres.

While living in Puerto Rico he worked as a chef at a Naval base, he moved to Westfield, and married his beloved wife Maria. He worked at the Tobacco Farm, and then as a machinist at New Britain Construction in Connecticut. He was a life long parishioner at St. Mary’s Parish. He was a member of many prayer groups including Cursillo, the Charasmatic Renewal, and Schoenstatt.

In his life he had a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary, he loved to pray the Rosary, and prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily. He was a wonderful friend, beloved husband, father, tio, abuelo, and abuelito.

Norberto loved to fish and cook. He was known for his delicious food, especially his rellenos de papa, his sense of humor, zest for life, and dedication to his faith and family. He found joy in spending time with his loved ones, telling stories of Puerto Rico, and how the Lord changed his life. He shared many jokes, riddles and silly sayings and you could often find him chuckling, and making others smile.

He is survived by his daughter Carmen M. Larriu, son-in-law Angel T. Larriu, five cherished grandchildren, and six beloved great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, and all of their children whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Maria Otero, and his daughter Maria “Cuchi” Otero.

A wake will be held on Friday, January 23 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Firtion Adam’s Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, Ma.
