Owen E. Johnson, Jr. passed away on April 7, 2021. Born on January 11, 1942 to Owen and Nancy (Holcomb) Johnson in Hartford, CT, he was a 1961 graduate of Bulkeley High School and attended Bryant College in Providence, RI where he studied Business Administration.
Owen began his career in sales at Del Monte Foods and later pursued industrial sales with Marsh Instrument Group. In 1986, Owen formed his own rep and distributor company, Owen Johnson Associates, specializing in plastic injection moulding equipment. His charismatic personality, love of people, conversation, and travel were the keys to his career success and he reluctantly retired from his business when his health began to fail in 2015. Owen enjoyed bowling in his younger years and, a car lover, could be found pouring over the latest edition of Automotive News. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement where he served as Head Usher for many years and as the chairman of pavilion cleanup for the annual Strawberry Festival at Stanley Park. He was the president of the Copper Hill Cemetery Association of East Granby, CT where his mother and sister were laid to rest. With a strong sense of family, Owen also served as president of the Roberts Reunion Association, a tight-knit group of descendants of the Roberts family of Granville, MA, who have gathered annually for over 100 years. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Barbara A. (Hall) Johnson of Westfield, MA and his four children, Wendy A. Caputo of Westfield, MA, Betsy J. Theriault of Scarborough, ME, Mary Kate Johnson of Westfield, MA, and Owen E. Johnson of Marietta, GA. He was Pop to his four grandchildren, Daniel Caputo of Southwick, MA, Enders and Katherine Houck of Westfield, MA and Sophie Theriault of Scarborough, ME. He is also survived by his nephew, a true brother to him, Robert O. Zabel and his wife Connie A. (Gallucci) Zabel of Windsor, CT. The Johnson family would like to thank the staff at the atrium for their excellent care. Funeral services will be private.
